Today you will see people with digital cameras everywhere. With the traditional “film” cameras becoming fewer and fewer, digital is the way of the future. OK, but what is going to be the best camera for you?
Just go into any store that carries electronics and you are going to be very quickly blown away with the number of choices. Plus, you have to now learn a whole new language just to know what to look for. It can be pretty overwhelming, but it’s not as bad as it seems.
Start with what you want to spend on a camera, what is your budget. You can literally find models ranging from under $50 to well over $500 plus. This is where knowing want you have to spend helps, but also make a list of what you want to use your camera for and the type of features that you want. There are a lot of bells and whistles that you can get, but why pay for some features that you will never use. Stay with your planed budget and usage needs.
The first factor that you will have to deal with are the “mega-pixels”. Mega-pixels relate to the color resolution of your camera. The norm is usually around 5 mega-pixels. As you start increasing the mega-pixel of a camera, two things will happen. First you will generally get a better picture quality and secondly, you will pay more.
Digital cameras today are really more computer that cameras of old. Because of this, the next thing to look at is memory for your camera. This is the storage space for all of your digital photos (pics). The larger the memory that you put into a camera, the more pictures that you will be able to take and store. This can be very important if you are taking a longer vacation and don’t want to worry about running out of memory space or needing multiple memory cards.
Finally, you will also want to consider any zoom functions of a camera. Most cameras will come with some type of zoom. The less expensive models are usually more restrictive than the more expensive models. Here again, it is good to know what you are going to be using the camera for and how much you have to spend.
Digital cameras are fun and easy to use. Once you get used to not having to worry about how much film you have left and not having to wait to have the film developed, you might be amazed at how many more pictures and memories you are capturing.
